How it works
A sender-control layer for Gmail.
Gmail remains where you read, reply, compose, and search. DeclutrMail groups a limited set of Gmail details by sender so you can make fewer decisions. Manual actions affect only the email shown before you confirm; Autopilot rules are separate and must be turned on.
Google’s screen asks for one Gmail permission, gmail.modify, and words it more broadly than DeclutrMail uses it: DeclutrMail moves and labels email and never sends email as you. We never fetch or store full email contents.

DeclutrMail is a companion to Gmail, not a replacement email client. The split is deliberate: Gmail handles individual emails; DeclutrMail helps you decide by sender.

Read full messages, reply, compose, search, use Gmail labels, and manage conversations. Gmail remains the source of truth for the mailbox.

One sender decision at a time.
After Gmail is connected, a first scan groups email by sender. DeclutrMail shows the current step and progress; the time varies with mailbox size and Gmail’s limits. Every plan includes the ranked Senders view and focused Triage queue.

The actions, in Gmail terms.
Daily Triage offers five decisions: Keep, Archive, Unsubscribe, Later, and Delete. The same five are available from Senders and Sender Detail on every plan. Delete is never recommended for you — you choose it, and it always shows a full preview first. Keep is not Protect: Keep records a decision; Protect is a separate shield against destructive and bulk actions.
Keep
No existing email moves. This sender stops coming up in Triage. Future email arrives exactly as it does now. Gmail labels and delivery settings are unchanged. Keep is not Protect — Autopilot rules can still act on this sender. Change this sender decision at any time.
Keep records your decision and leaves email where it is. Protect is separate: it keeps a sender out of bulk and automatic changes.
Archive
Matching email currently in Inbox moves out of Inbox and stays in Gmail. Future email is unchanged. Nothing is deleted. The sender is not unsubscribed. Undo from Activity for 30 days.
Archive applies only to the emails shown before you confirm. New email from the sender is unchanged.
Unsubscribe
Existing email stays where it is unless you choose a separate action for it. DeclutrMail sends a supported one-click request, or opens a prefilled Gmail draft for you to send. A delivered unsubscribe request cannot be undone.
A sent one-click unsubscribe request cannot be taken back. Existing email stays where it is unless you choose another action.
Later
Matching email currently in Inbox moves to the DeclutrMail/Later label. Future email is unchanged. Nothing is deleted. The sender is not unsubscribed. Undo from Activity for 30 days.
Later moves the emails shown in the preview to DeclutrMail/Later until the return time you choose. New email from the sender is unchanged.
Delete
Matching email currently in Inbox moves to Gmail Trash. Future email is unchanged. The sender is not unsubscribed. Undo from Activity for 30 days. Gmail Trash recovery is separate and is normally available for up to 30 days. Gmail permanently deletes email after its Trash retention period.
Delete is never recommended for you — you pick it yourself, and it always shows a full preview first. It moves the previewed email to Gmail Trash, where Gmail normally keeps it for 30 days.

Preview before the mailbox changes.
Some actions ask for options first, but the affected-email preview always appears before anything changes. Activity updates only after Gmail confirms a mailbox change or the sender reports the result of a one-click unsubscribe request.

Gmail confirms each label change. For one-click lists, the sender’s system reports whether it accepted the request. The delivered unsubscribe request cannot be undone; any paired Archive has its own Undo record. Autopilot follows the separate rule path below and does not ask for approval on each matching batch once you turn a rule on.

Manual cleanup is not a hidden rule.
A manual Archive, Later, or Delete applies to the current messages named in its preview. It does not quietly decide what happens to future mail. Future automation lives in separate Autopilot rules with their own controls: you see what a rule would do before you turn it on, and only a rule you deliberately turn on acts without asking.

Autopilot preset rule
Turning a preset on shows what it would do first, then it acts on future matches. Choose Watch first instead and it records what it would match without moving mail, for your approval. It can be paused again.

Know what Connect Gmail means.
DeclutrMail requests gmail.modify because archiving, labeling, and moving messages to Trash require mailbox changes. It also requests basic identity scopes so the connected account can be identified.
Limited Gmail details, not full emails
DeclutrMail stores the sender, subject line, Gmail preview snippet, dates, labels, and read or unread state. Full email contents, attachments, embedded images, and raw email source are not fetched or stored.
You can leave cleanly
Revoke Gmail access or disconnect an inbox from the account menu, export your DeclutrMail data, or schedule whole-account deletion from Settings. Disconnect keeps historical DeclutrMail records so reconnecting can restore context; Gmail remains intact.
